Page Builder: How to use (Ultranet 2.7)

Overview

In Ultranet version 2.7 we have made some significant changes to the way that pages are built and edited.

The two screens, 'Change Page Layout' and 'Edit Page Content' have been combined and are now accessed from the page tools menu by selecting 'Edit Content and Layout'. Screen_Shot_2015-04-01_at_2.43.36_pm.png

This will open the new drag and drop Page Builder.Screen_Shot_2015-04-01_at_3.15.05_pm.png

 Templates

To select the dimensions of the columns on the page,  click on the Templates button in the top left corner of the screen.Screen_Shot_2015-04-01_at_3.19.04_pm.png

All templates offer a full width section at the top and bottom of the page. Each template divides the middle section into different sized zones. There is no requirement to use the full width zones i.e. if you want the whole page to be split into two zones then choose template 3 and only use the middle section of the template. Each zone can contain as many items as you want.

Choosing Content Types

The editor's icon bar contains two sets of icons - the familiar page Modules and a new set of page Widgets. (A description of the new widgets can be found at the bottom of this article).Screen_Shot_2015-04-02_at_10.49.26_am.png

Both Modules and Widgets are placed in position by dragging them to the desired location on the page.   As with previous versions, Modules can be used only once on each page. Once a module has been dragged on to the page, its icon in the icon bar will become greyed out to indicate that the module is already in use on the page.  The new Widgets can be used as many times as you like on any page.

The Drag & Drop slider enables you to lock the modules in position on the page if you want to fix their position.

Adding and Editing Content

Widgets and modules behave slightly differently and the content they contain is managed in different locations.

Widgets: Content is created and edited directly in the page builder view

Modules: Content is added to modules in the published view of the page.

Note: The only exception to this rule is the Page Content Module. This is the module that contains the full wysiwyg editor. To maintain consistency when editing text, the Page Content module is also edited in the page builder view together with headings and paragraphs.

To edit a widget, hover over the widget with the cursor until the Edit button appears.Screen_Shot_2015-04-01_at_3.54.44_pm.png

To remove the module from the page, click the Remove button.

Note: Removing a widget or module does NOT delete the content that it contains. If the module or widget is dragged back on to the page the content will still be present.

New Widgets

Note: when creating a new Ultranet page, the layout template and modules from the parent page will be duplicated on the new subpage. You can remove or rearrange these as required.

Headings It is no longer necessary to use the Page Content module if all you want is a simple heading - just add text and select the font size. (If you want a range of formatting options then use the Page content module).
Paragraph This widget makes it very easy to add simple blocks of text to a page. The text can be presented in columns if preferred. (If you want a range of formatting options then use the Page content module).
Embedder When embedding third party content just paste the embed code into this widget and the job is done. There is no longer any need to open the HTML view of the page. For those who want a little more there is the option to add a description and/or to create a button which links to an external site for further information.
Media Frame The Media Frame widget enables you to display an item from your Media Gallery in a more prominent position on the page.  To use the widget, you must have content stored in your Media Gallery.

If images are placed in a Media Frame then the option exists to use the image mapping tool to turn them into clickable links. To explore this functionality, hover over the widget until the chain link button appears.

Slideshow The slideshow widget is an extension of the Media Gallery module. To use the slideshow, you must have the Media Gallery on the page and have at least one album containing images. Once the slideshow has been linked to the album the Media Gallery module can be 'removed' from the page if desired.
