Page layout: Setting up a page module (-v2.4)

Almost all of the page modules in WebSpace and ClassSpace follow the same basic protocols before being used—they need to be dragged onto one of the zones in the Page Layout, and they need to be activated. Here's how to do both:

Dragging modules onto the page layout

As explained in this article, WebSpace and ClassSpace pages in Ultranet consist of module 'zones' that are defined in templates. A module that is not locked into any zone on the page layout simply won't show or appear on the page. So before you can activate and use a module, you need to make sure that it is actually on the page:

  1. On the page you are working on, go to the Page Tools menu and select "Change layout".

  2. In the resulting screen, you will see a representation of your page in the middle with the current modules and zones displayed. Modules that are not on the page will be displayed on the "Module Bank" on towards the right.

  3. If it is not already on the page, identify the module you want to use from the Module Bank, then click on its green arrow icon and drag it to one of the Page Layout zones in the middle.

  4. Once you have placed the module in the intended zone, click the "Save & Update Page State" button at the bottom.

Activating the module

Before most modules can be interacted with, they need to be 'activated'. This is like installing or turning on the module, and essentially then binds it to the page so other users with page access can see it too. To activate a module:

  1. Click on the module's "Options" link, which is always located on the top-right corner of that module.

  2. In the drop-down menu that appears, click on the "Activate Module" link. Now when you click on the "Options" link again, you will see that the other items in the menu are now accessible.

Note: The only modules that do not feature a contextual "Options" menu are the Page Content and Sub Pages modules, as both of these are controlled/edited via the Page Tools menu.
