If enabled, the Profanity Filter uses a customisable wordbank to scan for expletives used across the site. By default, the wordbank is empty, so you will need to populate it first before it will return any results.

Adding individual words
-
Navigate to the Profanity Filter > Filter Settings tab.
-
Click on the "Add Word" button towards the top-right.

-
In the pop-up window, enter the word to be detected.

Once entered, click the "Add Word" button to save.
Tip
When adding items to the wordbank, you're not just restricted to entering complete words or phrases. There are two extra characters you can use to create variable expressions in the search: a question mark '?' and an asterisk '*'.
?
Adding a '?' within a word in place of a character will result in the search substituting any other character in its place to yield a match. For example, if the filter word was entered as "w?rd", then the following would be considered a match: "word", "ward", "wird", "wyrd", etc.
*
The '*' character acts as a wildcard match, and is best used at the end of a word/phrase. For example, if the filter word was entered as "dirt*", then the following would be considered a match: "dirtbike", "dirtroad", "dirty", "dirthead", etc.
These special characters apply for words added individually as well in bulk (see below).
Adding words in bulk
Bulk population of the wordbank is possible, should you be able to assemble a predefined list from online sources. Such lists can be imported in text (.TXT) format, with each new line in the document equating to an individual entry in the wordbank.
To import a predefined word list:
-
Navigate to the Profanity Filter > Filter Settings tab.
-
Click on the "Import/Export Words" button towards the top-right.

-
In the subsequent pop-up window, click to browse for and select the text file from your computer.

Once selected, click the "Import" button to upload the file. The text file will be scanned for content, and each new line will be added to the Profanity Wordbank.
Exporting the wordbank list
To extract a text copy of the current wordbank, repeat the steps listed above to Import the wordlist, but in the final step, click the "Export" button instead.
Deleting individual words
Should you need to remove a word from the wordbank, simply hover over the relevant word in the list and click the Trash icon towards the right.

Reseting the wordbank
If you need to start over or clear out all the words from the wordbank, use the "Delete All" button located towards the top-right of the "Filter Settings" tab.
